Presentation/Graphics (Week 11)


This is the fourth official devlog of my game Flappy Freak. It consists of changes made to the game from the last devlog and acknowledging feedback to which would become added to the game . I used this week to just make sure everything was working fine while looking good, adding small details to the game to enhance the quality and just commenting the code so its descriptive and a bit cleaner then what it was before. This weeks focus was on Presentation and the polish of the game.


i added sound effects to the jump control so that its more immersive by adding a audio source which plays the sound whenever the jump button is pressed. I have also changed the sprite filters to the point (no filter) filter which made for a overall less blurry picture. I also changed way game overs were occurring with the pipes as it didnt allow the player to process of the game over and since contacting with the pipes would immediately restart the game, it would have been difficult to implement some of the ui screens with the level being immediately restarted. I achieved this by removing the previous code and make sure that the player would lose their jump force and speed when interacting with the pipes which would eventually lead to a game over which is occurred when the player touches the ground.


There were not that many feedback that was given this week as there not that many changes that were made from the previous tutorial session and the presentation of the game currently holds up to peoples satisfaction. I had mentioned while presenting my work that i had thought of an idea for a gimmick during the tutorial and wanted to hype the game up and a few people were excited for that new gimmick.
